The New Google Maps

Google has recently redesigned one of their most useful Google’s utilities to add more information to your search. Now when you search for a specific address or business, you’ll see a street view and if you’ve entered your starting location, there’s instructions for the trip using transit, car, cycling or walking.

You’ll also see information about your destination. Hint: Keeping your Google Places for Business entry is now more important because that’s the information displayed on the Maps display.

You can share the trip information on google+, email or to certain brands of cars. The mobile app has a simple to use GPS system that’s accurate and provides better routes than other mobile GPS systems I’ve used. Options include avoiding tolls, highways or ferries and the distance can be calculated in km or miles.

Google Maps provides transit information with schedules and an Arrive By or Leave By option, which mode of transportation you prefer and the approximate time of the trip.

If your trip includes a flight, Google displays the travel time and a list of flights with the ability to purchase your ticket right there. Ads for hotels at your destination are displayed on the same screen.

When you choose the cycle option, Google Maps will display a designated bike route along with the distance and elapsed time.

The recent redesign has dropped some of the popular features of Google Maps, but Google has announced most of them will be reinstated in the coming months.

Do you use Google Maps in your everyday life? It’s fast, simple to use interface make it a natural for most folks.
